As of now, we've seen plenty of photos and footage of the upcoming 2012 BMW M5, and now the grandaddy of videos has just been released. This time, BMW has leaked nearly 30 minutes of the M5 undergoing cold weather testing in the Alps. There's plenty of everything here, from nice stills to rolling footage of the upcoming M car bounding through the snow.
The F10 M5 is rapidly approaching its debut, first at a private BMW press conference at the end of this week, then at the Shanghai Motor Show in mid-April. We already know that the car will have a twin-turbo 4.4-liter V8 replacing the outgoing car's V10, and Americans will still be able to get a traditional stick shift. We're ready, BMW. Webber baffled by Australian GP pace
Mark Webber says he plans to investigate all aspects of his Australian Grand Prix in a bid to understand why he finished a distant fifth, more than 41 seconds behind race-winner and team-mate Sebastian Vettel. The Australian has been uncharacteristically outpaced by the world champion throughout the weekend and was 0.8s slower than Vettel in qualifying as well, and seemed to be much heavier on the Pirelli tyres than the German

Red Bull Racing team principal Christian Horner has admitted that he is as surprised as everyone else about the strong form his team's new RB7 has shown in Australia. Although the reigning world champions had headed into the Albert Park event as favourites, it is the team's advantage over the rest of the field that has raised eyebrows - with Sebastian Vettel eight tenths clear of his nearest challenger. Horner says that he too did not expect such a level of dominance ? as he once again took a cheeky swipe at comments from Lewis Hamilton about Red Bull just being a drinks company rather than a full-on racing team.

Volvo has announced it will take sole ownership of its joint manufacturing facility with Pininfarina. The Pininfarinia Sverige AB plant in Uddevalla, Sweden, only builds the Volvo C70 convertible. According to Volvo, the changeover will take place in 2013, and the automaker will continue to build C70s at the plant.
Volvo and Pininfarina have been bedfellows at the plant since Volvo began building C70s in 2003. The car moved just over 4,000 units in 2010, down nearly two percent from the 2009 total.

Jay Leno's Garage managed to pull a very special interview this week with Lee Iacocca, the legendary American businessman credited with fathering the original Ford Mustang and with bringing Chrysler back from the brink in the 1980s. The interview rehashes Iacocca's success with the Mustang and direct involvement with the creation of Carroll Shelby's first cars in the '60s.
The video concludes with a walkaround and test drive of the Lee Iacocca 45th Anniversary Mustang, a (very) limited edition 400-horsepower supercharged tribute to the father of the Mustang. Leno even sneaks in a burnout in Lido's personal example. Check it out after the jump. Top tip, Brent!

Leading IndyCar drivers have called for a rethink of the new double-file restart rules after a string of early crashes in the season-opener in St Petersburg. The first race of the new system saw a massive first-corner crash involving Helio Castroneves, Marco Andretti, Mike Conway, Scott Dixon and Ryan Briscoe, and then further tangles after the ensuing restarts lead to four caution periods in the first 15 laps. De la Rosa set for final Pirelli run
Pedro de la Rosa has been allowed by McLaren to take part in Pirelli's key private test in Turkey that is scheduled to take place next weekend, AUTOSPORT has learned. Formula 1's new tyre supplier wants to ensure that its products are well-suited to the intense demands of the Istanbul track - as it eyes evaluation of a new hard compound for this year's race plus further developments for 2012. Dreyer and Reinbold to field Hamilton
Davey Hamilton will join Dreyer & Reinbold for a three-event IndyCar Series campaign this year. The American had been expected to return to De Ferran Dragon Racing, his 2010 home, before the team folded prior to the start of the season, but will instead resume his relationship with Dreyer & Reinbold - which fielded him at Indianapolis in 2009. This year Hamilton will enter the Indy 500, the Texas double-header, and the Las Vegas season finale.

Montoya claims Fontana Cup pole
Juan Pablo Montoya claimed his sixth Sprint Cup Series pole position in qualifying for Sunday's race at Auto Club Speedway in Fontana. The Colombian had run seventh fastest in a rain-delayed practice, which gave him one of the late slots to complete his qualifying run. On his first and only lap he knocked off Joe Gibbs Racing's Joey Logano from provisional pole with a lap time of 38.992s - the only driver breaking the 39-second bracket - at an average speed of 184.652mph

Renault says Petrov a different man
Renault boss Eric Boullier says Vitaly Petrov is a new man this year, after praising the Russian for grabbing sixth on the grid for the Australian Grand Prix. On the back of a difficult winter for Renault following Robert Kubica's rally crash, Petrov gave the Enstone-based team something to cheer about with a strong showing in Melbourne qualifying. Ford Racing Mustang sets half-mile speed record at Bristol [w/video]

NASCAR Driver David Ragan hopped out of his Ford Fusion and into a Ford Racing-modified 2011 Mustang GT and set out on the Bristol Motor Speedway to take a shot at the half-mile speed trials. The result? A new production car lap record of 98.497 miles per hour in 19.481 seconds.
Seeing a sub-100-mph speed for a track race may seem slow, but trust us, it's not. By comparison, a Yamaha superbike hit the course and managed a time of 19.582 seconds at a speed of 97.990 mph.
Ford Racing's modified Mustang uses a supercharger to add an extra 200 horsepower, bringing the total up to 624 hp. To manage that power, Ford Racing also fitted upgraded brakes and suspension parts. Click past the jump to see the Mustang, its new parts and David Ragan in action.

NASCAR iRacing.com Series World Championship driver Thomas Hazard had a pretty busy past week. The stretch started victoriously with the Midwest sim racing club driver driving his car to victory lane in the NiSWC event at the Bristol Motor Speedway. Five days later, he drove his NASCAR iRacing.com Class C Series (NiCCS) truck to the winner’s circle at Pocono Raceway, a win which proved to be enough to take top honors over the seven days of racing at the Pennsylvania racetrack known as the Tricky Triangle. Mitsubishi has a problem with its current lineup. Unless you're looking for a Lancer, your options are limited to the Galant mid-size sedan and the Endeavor and Outlander crossovers. Right now, the Galant is contemplating seppuku and the Endeavor hasn't been fully redesigned since it first went on sale back in 2003. The Outlander, however, has something positive to offer. It seats up to seven passengers (in a pinch), has been named an Insurance Institute for Highway Safety Top Safety Pick, and tops out at 28 miles per gallon on the highway.
Mitsubishi knows having just two competitive vehicles to choose from isn't enough to compete in an industry eager to fill every niche, and the company appears focused on evolving the two lone bright spots in its lineup. The Lancer has spawned many variants, the latest being the Lancer Sportback, a fun-to-drive wagon that doesn't step on the toes of the top-trim Lancer Evolution. The Outlander, meanwhile, recently gave its name to the smaller 2011 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport, a five-passenger crossover looking to make its mark in a currently crowded segment.

Kovalainen confident Lotus is reliable
Heikki Kovalainen is confident that Team Lotus has put its reliability problems behind it despite a troubled pre-season with the T128. Lotus managed just over 2500 miles during pre-season in February and March, suffering from a number of mechanical problems, but the Finn believes that the team made a big step in the final test at Barcelona. FIA investigating Peugeot flips
The FIA is investigating the latest accident in which an all-new Peugeot 908 HDi became airbourne following a testing crash, this week's AUTOSPORT reveals. In testing last month at Paul Ricard, Nicolas Minassian flipped after getting sideways at the fast Verriere-S corner at the end of the French track's start-finish straight.

Paul di Resta says that his lack of recent single-seater experience will not be a disadvantage for him compared to Formula 1's other rookies Sergio Perez, Pastor Maldonado and Jerome d'Ambrosio. While the other three have recent GP2 experience, and in the case of Maldonado a title, di Resta comes into off the back of a title-winning DTM campaign after four years racing with Mercedes in touring cars. Dovizioso frustrated with Simoncelli
Andrea Dovizioso believes Marco Simoncelli cost him a shot at the Qatar Grand Prix podium by being too aggressive when they were battling for fourth. Dovizioso eventually finished just behind his third-placed works Honda team-mate Dani Pedrosa, having eventually overcome Gresini rider Simoncelli, whose Honda is also factory specification. But Dovizioso reckoned that had he not lost time in one particular close call with Simoncelli, he could have taken on Pedrosa properly.

Stoner fights to Qatar GP victory
Casey Stoner commenced his first season as a factory Honda rider with victory in Qatar - but the result was not the Honda steamroller that was anticipated. Honda did not even manage to deliver a one-two, with world champion Jorge Lorenzo (Yamaha) battling through to second ahead of Honda's Dani Pedrosa. Valentino Rossi started his Ducati career with seventh place after a hard-fought race.

Qatar breakthrough buoys Pedrosa
Dani Pedrosa regarded his second place on the Qatar Grand Prix grid as a very satisfying result despite having been unable to beat Honda team-mate Casey Stoner to pole. The Spaniard was 0.2 seconds slower than the polesitter - but having never qualified above fifth at Losail in MotoGP, Pedrosa felt he had made a breakthrough in his performance at the track. "I really was looking for the front row because it's my first time on the front row on this track, so this is already a big step for me," he said.

Stoner tops another practice session
Casey Stoner completed his clean sweep of fastest times in Qatar practice sessions, but had to fight harder in practice three. The previous two sessions had seen Stoner unstoppable from the outset, but in Friday's final session he was behind his Honda team-mate Dani Pedrosa until the final few minutes, when the Australian delivered a sub-lap-record 1m55.035s to go quickest by 0.158 seconds
